Hunter Elliott received his BFA in Sculpture and Printmaking from Kent State University in 2014 and has since developed multiple bodies of work across disciplines and media. His practice wavers between the making of functional and nonfunctional objects, exploring the meaning and value of utility and the importance of materiality. He currently teaches broom making and other craft techniques at Berea College Student Craft in Berea, KY, where he serves as the Director of Fellowships.

Hunter’s bowls are hand-turned and finished by hand at his home in Berea, KY. The majority of his materials are sourced from trees local to his area—often storm-downed or removed from private and city properties—or recovered from area wood dumpsters. Each piece, whether turned fresh (green) or dried, is carefully finished with oil and wax to ensure a long-lasting surface.

For bowls intended for food use: wash with warm soapy water and dry immediately with a cloth. Never allow wooden wares to soak in water, and do not place them in the dishwasher. Over time and with repeated use, the finish may wear. To restore luster, gently sand with a high-grit sandpaper (320 or higher) and reapply a food-grade mineral oil or butcher-block conditioner.
