Using the traditional block pattern “Log Cabin,” the artist seeks out notions of home and ghosts of lived experiences. Using reference images taken by the artist, this home in Vernon, Florida, is embroidered using the method called “thread painting” to conjure feelings of familiarity and nostalgia.
Vernon, Florida, a place of economic fallout and infamy, was sadly dubbed “Nub City” following an onslaught of insurance claims from forestry companies in the 1950s and ’60s. Like all pieces, all elements of this work were solely created by the artist using upcycled and significant fabrics.
