Handled Broom Workshop

$300.00

Full size broom workshop with Hunter Elliott.

This workshop is for someone who wants an in-depth introductory experience into full-sized broommaking. Participants will leave with a full-sized broom and a greater understanding of the tools and techniques used in broommaking. This workshop will take between 6 and 8 hours and will include a lunch break (lunch provided).

During this full-day workshop, you will learn the basics of:

  • Handle selection and preparation

  • Broomcorn grading – how to choose the fiber for the broom

  • Full-sized broom construction

  • Basic decorative plaiting

  • Broom stitching (note: stitching will be taught on the day of the class, but it is a requirement that a broom is fully dry before it is stitched. Since brooms are made with wet fiber, participants will be invited to return during open hours to finish stitching their broom once it has dried which takes between one and two days).

  • Broom Trimming and final details

Participants should be aware that this kind of making requires sustained hand and foot dexterity.
